Common Questions About Liposuction For Women
What Areas Of The Body Can Benefit From Liposuction?
Though liposuction can be performed on almost any part of the body, women usually have specific areas they want to slim down with liposuction procedures. Surgery can preserve the hourglass feminine shape, while slimming down the thighs, buttocks or abdomen.
Can I Undergo Liposuction Surgery?
Women who are near their ideal, healthy body weight but are struggling with problem areas are usually good candidates for liposuction. It is also important to be a nonsmoker and have good skin elasticity, as these will promote proper healing and results.
How Is Liposuction Performed In Birmingham, MI?
In your consultation with Dr. Ellen, you will discuss your aesthetic goals and she will discuss the treatment sites of your individualized body to get you the results you are looking for. The procedure itself can last from 45 minutes to two hours, depending on the patient and the treatment site. To begin, Dr. Ellen will first make one or two small incisions at the treatment site. Through these incisions, she will insert a thin tube called a cannula, which will suction out the fat.
What Will My Aftercare Steps Be Following Liposuction?
Dr. Ellen will likely ask you to wear a compression garment for a time to promote the proper healing of your new body contours. Drainage tubes may be placed to drain excess fluids away from the incisions. Some redness, bruising, or swelling may occur, which may take several weeks to subside. Any discomfort that occurs can be controlled with pain medication. You will have to limit your activity for several days, but you will be expected to walk shortly after surgery.
How Long Will Liposuction Results Last?
Because liposuction removes fat cells, results in the treated area are permanent. However, your body contours may fluctuate if weight is gained, or due to aging, pregnancy, and hereditary or lifestyle factors.
Liposuction patients should practice healthy habits to maintain a stable weight in order to maintain their surgery results. In the case that weight is gained, fat will not be stored in the treatment area, rather, they will be stored in other areas of the body.
After your procedure, you will be required to return to Dr. Ellen’s office for follow-up evaluations to ensure that your incisions are healing properly. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any concerns or questions.
