A successful recovery is essential to achieving the best results from your breast augmentation procedure. With a few simple tips, you can ensure that your recovery is as comfortable as possible for effective results!
Manage Pain
Each women’s pain tolerance is different, but you can expect to have some degree of pain following your breast augmentation procedure. If you had your implant placed below the muscle, you might experience more pain than if you had the implant over the muscle. The first few days will be the toughest, but your pain will continue to diminish over the next week. During that time, you can manage pain through over-the-counter medication or a prescription from your surgeon. Using an ice pack can also help with pain and swelling.
Allow Implants to Settle
During recovery, it is not unusual for your implants to feel hard and to sit high on the chest. It is important to remember that your implants will need some time to settle into their normal position and soften. The final results of your breast augmentation will appear after about six weeks after the implants have fully settled and swelling has gone down.
Minimize Scarring
Although some scarring is unavoidable after your procedure, there are some things you can do during and after recovery to minimize their appearance. Proper care for your incisions during recovery will ensure that they heal properly. Your surgeon will provide you with specific aftercare instructions. You should be sure to keep your incision clean and dry and avoid removing your bandages as much as possible. Once you have healed completely, you can talk to your plastic surgeon about scar revision treatment if you wish, but with time and patience, your scars will begin to fade.
