Deciding to have breast augmentation is an important decision, but that decision can become a little easier when you have accurate information about what to expect.
Knowing what will happen after your surgery can be particularly crucial. It ensures you can properly prepare for the recovery process. Let’s take a look at what breast augmentation recovery looks like and how you can best take care of yourself.
1-5 Days After Surgery
During the first days after your breast augmentation surgery, you will experience some soreness, bruising, and swelling. You are also likely to feel fatigued, so plenty of rest is required.
You can shower two days after surgery, but try to keep your incisions away from the water and only use lukewarm water. While you’re showering, you can remove your gauze and compression bra, but the bra should go back on right after your shower.
This is also the time you will want a friend or family member to help you out around the house. You will want to avoid anything that requires you to use your upper body, so having someone do your daily activities for you can be a great idea. They can cook, clean, and help you with anything you need. Your job is to relax and perhaps catch up on a TV show or book you’ve been meaning to get to.
1-2 Weeks After Surgery
After the first week, you’ll likely feel much better, but that doesn’t mean you should immediately start doing everything you couldn’t do during the first few days.
You should continue to take time off work, school, and any other activities for the first ten days after breast augmentation. Avoid lifting, pulling, or pushing anything heavier than five pounds until after the second week of recovery. You’ll also want to avoid strenuous exercise.
During this period, make sure to stay hydrated, and if you need some fun, invite friends over, continue binge-watching Netflix, or finish that craft project you started forever ago.
As for your incisions, they should be done healing after ten days.
3-4 Weeks After Surgery
At this point, you should be able to return to work or school, but you will still want to be cautious of doing upper body exercises or too much physical activity. You can start doing some activities, but take it slow. The healing process will continue until three months after your breast surgery.
During the period, you can return to a normal bra, but you will want to stay away from underwires as they could affect the position of your implants and your overall results.
