Do you feel that the natural aging process has made you look older than you feel? Perhaps you are unhappy with the appearance of loose skin and wrinkles on your face, jaw, and neck. If so, you may be a good candidate for a facelift. This surgical procedure is ideal for taking years off your appearance for long-term results. Read on to learn more about what to expect following facelift surgery so that you can properly prepare for the best outcomes.
Week 1
Directly after your surgery, you will feel sleepy, and you must have a family member or friend drive you home. Dr. Ellen will schedule a follow-up visit around day 2, during which she will evaluate your incisions and levels of swelling. On days 3-4, it is advised that you rest, though it is helpful to move around some if you can. By days 4-6 patients often no longer require pain medication and swelling will reduce. The first week following your surgery, it is important that you follow the recovery instructions given to you by Dr. Ellen.
Week 2
During the second week of recovery may still experience some swelling and bruising, which should continue to go down. Most patients are able to return to work and light activities by the end of week 2.
Weeks 3 and 4
Patients may still experience a bit of residual swelling but will begin to feel much more like themselves by weeks 3 and 4. Visible improvements in their facial contour are also noticeable, and individuals can feel free to resume exercising. Sutures are often removed anytime between weeks 1 and 3.
After 30 Days
Following the 30-day mark, patients can return to their regular daily activities. For some, minor bruising and swelling may take up to a year to completely reside.
It is important to understand that this timeframe is very general, and every patient will have their own unique experience recovering from a facelift. If you have any questions regarding what to expect during recovery or have any specific concerns, please do not hessite in asking Dr. Ellen.
