Rhinoplasty, commonly called a nose job, reshapes the nose to improve facial balance, and in some cases to improve breathing. At our Bloomfield Hills practice, rhinoplasty is performed exclusively by Dr. Boston.
Refine Your Profile With Rhinoplasty
Dr. Boston is a plastic surgeon who offers rhinoplasty to help patients achieve natural-looking harmony between the nose and the rest of the face. The procedure can address concerns such as:
- A prominent bump or hump on the bridge of the nose
- A nose that appears too large, wide, or long for the face
- A drooping, bulbous, or asymmetrical nasal tip
- Nostrils that are uneven, flared, or wide
- A nose that has changed after injury
- Breathing difficulty related to nasal structure
The goal is a subtle, balanced result that complements your features and still looks like you.

MEET DR. ELLENWhat Is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the bone, cartilage, and skin of the nose. It can change the size, shape, angle, or proportions of the nose, refine the tip, narrow the nostrils, or smooth the bridge. It can also correct structural problems that make breathing difficult. Because the nose sits at the center of the face, even small refinements can create a noticeable, harmonious change.
Am I a Candidate for Rhinoplasty in Bloomfield Hills, MI?
You may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if you are bothered by the size or shape of your nose, or if you have a structural concern that affects your breathing. Ideal candidates are generally:
- In good overall health
- Non-smokers, or willing to stop before and after surgery
- Finished with facial growth
- Realistic about what surgery can achieve
During your consultation in Bloomfield Hills, Dr. Boston will review your medical history, examine your nasal structure, and discuss your goals. She will explain which approach may suit you best.
How Is Rhinoplasty Performed in Bloomfield Hills, MI?
Rhinoplasty is performed by Dr. Boston and is tailored to each patient’s anatomy and goals. Depending on your needs, the procedure may be done with an open technique, with a small incision across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils), or a closed technique, with incisions hidden inside the nose. Dr. Boston then reshapes the cartilage and bone to create the planned result and redrapes the skin over the new framework.
Rhinoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia or sedation. Incisions are placed to minimize visible scarring. Rhinoplasty can be combined with septoplasty to improve breathing, or with other facial procedures. Ask Dr. Boston whether a combined plan is right for you.
What Will My Aftercare Steps Be Following Rhinoplasty?
You will likely wear a nasal splint or cast for about one week. Expect swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes, which improves significantly over the first 1-2 weeks. Many patients return to work or school within 7-10 days.
Dr. Boston will give you detailed instructions on rest, head elevation, activity limits, and follow-up visits. Final refinement of the nose can take up to a year as swelling fully resolves.
How Long Will Rhinoplasty Results Last?
Rhinoplasty results are long-lasting, and the structural changes are considered permanent. The nose will still change subtly with natural aging, and factors such as skin quality, genetics, sun exposure, and any future injury can influence your long-term appearance. Most patients enjoy their refined profile for many years.
