What is Scar Management?

• Embrace– Embrace uses Stress-Shield™ technology to actively mend the skin to prevent the development of thick and raised scars. Embrace dressings last around 10 days, and it is advised that therapy be continued for two months for optimal results.
• Silagen– Silagen is a silicone gel that can be applied to new and old surgical scars. The gel not only helps minimize scarring but also provides sun protection. The gel dries quickly to create an invisible shield over your scars, providing protection while reducing redness and flattening them. The gel is flexible and waterproof, lasting for 12 to 24 hours. For best results, apply Silagen gel twice daily for 12 weeks.
• Broadband Light BBL – BBL, or Broadband Light laser therapy, can treat a range of skin conditions, including lessening the appearance of scars. During treatment, a handheld BBL device is passed over the treatment area, and patients will feel a warm sensation, similar to a repeated rubber-band snap. BBL treatments are done in two to five sessions, usually spaced two to four weeks apart, though more sessions may be needed for more serious scarring.
• Profractional Laser Therapy– Profractional laser therapy works by removing the skin layer by layer. This will cause new skin cells to form, resulting in tighter, smoother skin. During the treatment, a local anesthetic will be used, and the procedure can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the size of the treatment area. Patients can expect skin peeling to occur five to seven days after laser therapy, and healing takes between 10 and 21 days.
