The procedure itself can last from 45 minutes to two hours, depending on the patient and the treatment site. For your comfort during surgery, you will be given anesthesia or sedation, depending on what your doctor recommends. To begin, Dr. Ellen will first make one or two small incisions at the treatment site. Through these incisions, she will insert a thin tube called a cannula, which will suction out the fat.

What Will My Aftercare Steps Be Following Liposuction?

Dr. Ellen will likely ask you to wear a compression garment for a time to promote the proper healing of your new body contours. Some redness, bruising, or swelling may occur, which may take several weeks to subside. Any discomfort that occurs can be controlled with pain medication. You will have to limit your activity for several days, but you will be expected to walk shortly after surgery. As swelling decreases, you will be able to see the results of your liposuction procedure. It may take swelling a few months to completely resolve, and your final results to show.
